Troy Mazzei, a member of the Class of 2026, is pursuing a degree in Adolescent/Young Adult English/Language Arts Education, aiming to positively influence the lives of young learners. His journey at Walsh began with a strong attraction to the University’s Catholic identity. This commitment to faith, along with the opportunity to be considered for the Honors program, solidified his decision to follow in the footsteps of his father, a Walsh alumnus.
“I feel blessed to be a legacy Cavalier! My visit to Walsh was initially to accompany my dad on his nostalgic journey back to campus, but when I saw how strong the Catholic faith is here and discovered the Honors program, I was very interested,” he said. “High school was tough for me, but being at Walsh feels awesome. I finally found my people and a place where I belong.”
As a member of the Honors Program, Troy has embraced leadership roles, serving as the class representative and organizing service projects for his peers. Through these experiences, he has forged meaningful connections with local organizations and discovered his capacity to lead with confidence. Beyond academics, Troy is involved in Cavs for Life and Campus Ministry, serving as a group leader on retreats, and as an altar server at Holy Mass. He’s also rallying support to construct a gaga ball pit on campus as a way to enhance student life at Walsh.
Looking ahead, Troy aspires to become an English/reading teacher at a Catholic school and dreams of starting a family. With Walsh’s comprehensive support system, including opportunities for student teaching, licensure preparation, and involvement in campus activities, Troy is confident in his ability to achieve his goals and make a difference in the lives of his future students.
“I chose this career path because I love working with kids, I want to make an impact, and because I’ve always had an affinity for working with the written word,” he said.
For prospective students considering Walsh University, Troy offers valuable advice: be brave, get involved, and never underestimate your potential to find your place and thrive. At Walsh, there are plenty of opportunities for personal and academic growth, and with determination and openness to new experiences, every student can carve out their own path to success.
