For Quentin Morris, choosing Walsh University was a leap of faith—quite literally. Quentin, from Cleveland, Ohio, had never set foot on Walsh University’s campus before enrolling. Yet, the decision to pursue higher education was non-negotiable for him.
“I always wanted to attend college to get away from distractions back home,” he shared. “This dream of obtaining a bachelor’s degree and leading by example for my younger siblings was extremely important to me.”
Despite the initial uncertainty, Quentin quickly found a sense of belonging within the Walsh community. Coming from an environment where education was not always a priority, he recognized the significance of the opportunity he had been given.
“By choosing this path, I created a space for myself to grow and discover my interests within a supportive community,” he said. “Giving back to the youth is something I love to do. It’s important to remind younger generations to follow their dreams and not be discouraged by setbacks.”
Quentin’s passion for mentorship and leadership led him to take on roles that allowed him to support and uplift his peers. As a Resident Assistant and an employee in the Office of Culture and Belonging, he is able to work closely with students from diverse backgrounds, providing guidance and encouragement.
“I enjoy being the person students can reach out to for personal problems or just to hang out with,” he said. “My advice to my peers is to stay open-minded and embrace new perspectives. That mindset has helped me throughout my college journey.”
Quentin credits the faculty, staff, and his fellow students for helping him expand his horizons and see a future beyond what he had imagined for himself.
“Growing up in a city where crime is common, I knew I needed to find a better path,” he reflected. “At Walsh, I was surrounded by people who genuinely wanted to guide me. Their advice and support have placed me in better positions throughout my journey.”
As a Biology Pre-Veterinary major, Quentin has his sights set on becoming a veterinarian. But beyond his professional aspirations, he hopes to inspire others, especially his younger brothers, to believe in the possibilities that exist beyond their immediate circumstances.
“Walsh has played a huge role in helping me achieve my goals—not just academically, but spiritually as well,” he said. “I’ve found faith here, and I’ve been blessed with numerous advisors to point me in the right direction.”
Quentin’s story is one of resilience, determination, and a deep commitment to personal growth and service. His journey at Walsh is a testament to how students find their purpose at Walsh University.
“I didn’t come from the nicest neighborhood, and I wasn’t always a straight-A student,” he admitted. “But my drive to shape my future and be a positive role model for my family and others has always pushed me to be the best version of myself.”
As he prepares for the next chapter in his life, Quentin reflects on the impact the institution has had on his life.
“This school has exceeded my expectations and played a valuable role in shaping who I am today,” he said. “Though it’s bittersweet that these four years have gone by so quickly, I take pride in knowing I’ve gained invaluable lessons and lifelong connections. Even after I leave, I will always carry the Walsh spirit with me.”
