Nadia Demmel, a Canton McKinley High School graduate, began her Walsh University journey at just 16 years old with over 40 college credits already completed. Now a Digital Marketing and Analytics major, Nadia is set to graduate in May 2025, embodying Walsh's mission of community, leadership, and service.
As a first-year commuter, Nadia initially felt disconnected from campus life. However, one upperclassman’s invitation to an event sparked a turning point. “That encouragement gave me the confidence to get involved,” she shared. Since then, Nadia has embraced leadership roles, including serving as President of Walsh’s Black Student Union. Under her leadership, the organization has become a platform for fostering dialogue, celebrating diversity, and empowering students to embrace their identities. “I want every student to feel seen, heard, and valued,” Nadia explained. Her work with the Black Student Union reflects her deep commitment to inclusion and community-building, as she works to create an environment where all voices are respected.
Nadia’s time at Walsh has been transformative. She also serves as a member of the cheer and dance teams, experiences she credits with teaching her teamwork, building confidence, and inspiring school spirit.
Beyond campus, Nadia’s leadership extends into the community. As a Social Media and Community Engagement Intern with United Way of Greater Stark County, she used her marketing skills to support local initiatives. This followed an earlier marketing internship with Freshmark. Juggling these roles alongside part-time jobs showcases her dedication and work ethic.
Nadia’s passion for digital marketing stems from its blend of creativity, strategy, and technology. “It allows me to connect with diverse audiences, share impactful stories, and amplify voices that matter,” she explained. Her ultimate goal is to pursue a career in the nonprofit sector while earning an MBA, combining her skills with her drive to create meaningful change.
“What sets me apart is my age,” Nadia reflects. “At just 19 years old, I find myself younger than many of my peers and other college students around me. As I prepare to graduate and make life-changing decisions, this unique aspect of my journey has profoundly shaped who I am. Being younger in this environment has pushed me to grow and mature in ways I might not have otherwise.”
