ART 102 - Visual Order
Fundamentals of design explored through individual projects done in cut paper, ink and acrylic paint. Concepts covered include compositional balance, focal point, simplification of form, abstraction and use of color. Projects are flexible enough to adapt to individual skills. Offered every fall and spring. Requires additional purchase of art supplies.
Supplies will cost about $150-160 per semester. You absolutely cannot take this class without supplies! Please budget accordingly.
1. Portfolio for art work, large enough to carry 20" X 30" boards
2. 6 (maybe more?) cold press illustration boards 20" X 30"
3. Windsor Newton Galeria* acrylic paint 2 oz tubes: crimson red, cadmium orange, cadmium yellow medium, permanent green middle, ultramarine blue, Windsor violet, titanium white (4oz), mars black
4. 3 bright bristle brushes--sizes 2/6/10 and a very fine detail brush (This means a ¾" brush, a ½" brush, and a ¼" brush, and a 1/8" brush. Texture should be soft nylon, like golden taklon.)
5. Kneaded eraser & Mars Staedtler* eraser
6. HB drawing pencil and plain computer paper for sketching
7. Canson* tracing paper pad 11" X 14"
8. 3M or Scotch* blue painters tape (or whatever artist tape Jim Cook recommends)
9. Black Sharpie* markers: fine, extra fine, and broad nib
10. 24" cork backed metal ruler (smaller rulers also helpful)
11. X-Acto #8* or #9* Lightweight Retractable Utility Knife and blades
12. Rubber cement and rubber cement pick-up
13. Scissors and small spritzer bottle
14. Box for carrying supplies and small airtight containers for saving mixed paint

ART 103 - Drawing I
Fundamentals of drawing explored through various drawing media and techniques from quick sketches to polished drawings. Concepts covered include compositional layout, proportions, value balance, perspective and use of color. Coursework adaptable to accommodate individual skill levels. Requires additional purchase of art supplies. Offered every fall and spring.

1. Folding zipper portfolio for art work (16" X 20")
2. Strathmore 300 series* 14" X 17" drawing pad, 100 sheets
3. Canson XL* 14" X 17" newsprint pads, 100 sheets
4. Derwent* graphite sticks + 1 French Conte 4B (ONLY AVAILBLE AT COOK’S ART SUPPLY)
5. HB drawing pencil and Ebony* pencil
6. 9-12 paper shading stumps (also known as tortillons)
7. protractor & eraser shield
8. high intensity lamp (for homework, optional)
9. Kneaded eraser and MarsStaedtler* plastic eraser
10. black Sharpie* markers: fine, extra fine, & broad nib
11. 36" metal ruler (smaller rulers are also helpful)
12. Krylon* workable spray fixative (you can easily split this among 3 people)

14. Craypas* oil pastels professional grade (green box); set of 25 minimum—more is better
