  • Tools: Excel and Power BI, applying Power Query and DAX alongside AI tools
  • Data: Realistic sample nonprofit datasets

This program equips nonprofit professionals to transform donor records, program information and grant data into impact reporting and forecasts. Sessions use realistic nonprofit datasets, and participants leave with a functioning impact dashboard and forecast.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion, participants will be able to:

  • Combine and standardize donor CRM exports, program records and grant spreadsheets in Power Query
  • Develop data models and DAX measures that track program outcomes and fundraising performance
  • Create impact and fundraising dashboards for board members and funders
  • Apply RFM segmentation to donors and forecast giving, donor retention and demand for services
  • Use AI tools to flag anomalies and draft grant report summaries, verify AI output, and restrict access to sensitive donor and client information

Training Outline

  1. Bringing Nonprofit Data Together (2 hrs): Donor CRM exports, program records and grant spreadsheets in Power Query; record cleanup and standardization. Applied lab: Create a clean, unified nonprofit dataset.
  2. Modeling Outcomes and Building Dashboards (2 hrs): Data models and DAX measures for program outcomes and fundraising; dashboards for boards and funders. Applied lab: Create an impact and fundraising dashboard.
  3. Donor Segmentation and Forecasting (2 hrs): RFM segmentation; retention and lapsed-donor analysis; forecasts of giving and service demand. Applied lab: Create donor segments and a giving forecast.
  4. AI-Assisted Reporting and Data Security (2 hrs): AI-based anomaly detection; AI-drafted grant summaries and their validation; restricting access to donor and client information. Final project: Publish an impact dashboard with a forecast and an AI-assisted report.

Assessment and Credentials

Every session includes an applied lab, and the program concludes with a final project. Participants who complete all four sessions and the final project receive a certificate of completion from Walsh University Skilled Technical Workforce (STWF) titled “Applied Data Analytics and AI in Nonprofit Organizations.”

Skills That Transfer Beyond

The skills serve community and health organizations, social service agencies, foundations, faith-based groups and arts and cultural institutions alike, and they carry over to reporting and analytics roles in other industries. Since the skills center on widely used analytics and AI tools and not on one employer's processes, participants keep them as they move between roles and employers.

Data and Privacy in Class

All labs use realistic sample nonprofit data rather than any one employer's systems. Participants also practice verifying AI output and restricting access to sensitive donor and client information.
