International Student Resources and Information

The Office of Culture and Belonging at Walsh University is committed to supporting international students in maintaining lawful F-1 status, adjusting to life in the United States, and navigating the academic and cultural environment at Walsh University. Support is offered through a comprehensive orientation, webinars, informational sessions, cultural events, and more.

Full-Time Enrollment Requirement

In accordance with regulations from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP), all F-1 international students must be enrolled full-time and make normal academic progress toward their degree.

To maintain F-1 status, you must enroll in:

  • A minimum of 12 credit hours per semester if you are an undergraduate student
  • A minimum of 9 credit hours per semester if you are a graduate student
    •

In certain limited circumstances—such as documented medical conditions or academic difficulties during your first semester—a Reduced Course Load (RCL) may be authorized. However, this must be approved in advance by the Designated School Official (DSO) in the Office of Culture and Belonging. Students may not drop below full-time without prior approval, or they risk violating their F-1 status.

It is your responsibility to maintain full-time status. The Office of Culture and Belonging is available to assist you and your academic advisor in reviewing your schedule to ensure compliance with immigration regulations.
