Young people searching for meaning in their lives often find ways to be good stewards of their talents. David Dzurilla ’23 has taken a desire to create and communicate and channeled that into making a positive impact as a Walsh University Blouin Scholar.
As a Graphic Design and Communications major with a minor in Marketing, David has had opportunities to collaborate with nonprofit community partners to create marketing materials in support of their mission.
“Servant leadership is extremely important to me,” David said. “I find that my God-given talents are impactful at Walsh, and I appreciate that the University shares my sentiment and encourages students to participate in projects that benefit the local community.”
From an early age, he began drawing, sketching and making 3D models for fun and finding unique ways to solve problems. In high school, he gained a competitive edge by interning for three years at a design and video company where he had access to modern software. There, he experienced many successes designing logos and marketing materials for businesses in the Cleveland area and decided to pursue Graphic Design in college. At Walsh, he has continued to have hands-on experiences through internships and service-learning projects.
“My professors have recommended me for many freelance jobs, which allowed me to gain real world experience, develop my skills and explore my talent for creative problem solving,” he said. “It reinforced my desire to use my work to help restore virtue in our modern society and have a positive impact on those who experience what I create.”
Despite a demanding academic schedule, David is involved with Campus Ministry, the AGAPE retreat team, Brotherhood ministry, Design Club, and Cavs for Life. He makes time to be an Alter Server and a Cavs Cor Leader. He applies his creative talents as an event photographer, and he explores his entrepreneurial interest as a member of The Garage. David also participates in intramurals.
“College is a time for personal development and formation as well as having fun,” he said. “You don’t have to have everything figured out. I believe in taking time to discern your path and live in the present. When it is all said and done, you will find yourself right where you are meant to be.”
