While many colleges and universities transitioned fully online for 2020-2021, Walsh University has remained flexible, committed to providing students the option of an in-class or online experience.

“It was crucial for me to get back in the physical classroom. A big part of college is having that faculty-student interaction, especially at Walsh where that personal relationship is a benefit of the university experience,” said junior Chris Villarreal. “As a science major, it’s important for me to be able to ask questions right up front rather than via email or over Zoom.”

Thankfully, Exercise Science faculty have modified the program so that students can participate in lab experiences with safety protocols and physical distancing in mind. “We have the Seven to Remember here at Walsh, which have really been well enforced,” he said. “I’ve felt safe the entire time I’ve been back on campus.”

As Resident Assistant (RA), it’s important to find ways to safely keep students engaged on campus and in the residence halls. “This semester we’ve focused more on passive programming, grab-and-go activities, pre-packaged snacks, etc.,” Chris said. “It’s been a bit challenging because I had a lot of activities planned, but we’ve really adapted and been able to find a good balance.”

Although this academic year looks a little different than years past, the Walsh University community remains strong. “Even with this whole ‘new normal,’ Walsh still feels like home and I’m happy to be here.”
