Major: Computer Science

Benjamin Kim, a sophomore from Canal Fulton, Ohio, has a passion for cybersecurity and a deep appreciation for the close-knit community at Walsh University. As a Computer Science major with a focus on cybersecurity, Benjamin is driven by his love for technology and a desire to protect people’s digital information from threats. His ultimate goal is to one day work for the government, safeguarding sensitive data.

“I’ve always been fascinated by tech,” Benjamin said. “Growing up, I dreamed of building computers and exploring how things worked. Cybersecurity became my focus because it combines my love for technology with the chance to make a real impact by protecting others.”

For Benjamin, Walsh University was a natural choice. Having grown up around the campus with his father, a Walsh professor, he had always admired the sense of belonging the university offered. “The community here is amazing,” he shared. “The smaller class sizes mean I get to really connect with my professors. I can ask questions, engage in deeper conversations, and learn in ways that wouldn’t be possible at a larger school.”

As a scholar-athlete on the Walsh men’s basketball team, Benjamin learned valuable lessons in discipline, hard work, and time management. “Being on the team shaped me in so many ways,” he explained. “Coach Jeff Young’s leadership instilled a dedication to excellence that extended beyond the court. The bond with my teammates gave me strength in every challenge and joy I faced.”

Faith was also a cornerstone of Benjamin’s experience at Walsh. “I came to Walsh with a background in Christianity, but it wasn’t my focus,” he admitted. “Being at a university that integrates faith and reason helped me reconnect with my faith in meaningful ways. I was surprised by how welcoming and understanding the environment is—it’s about sharing love and reason, not blind faith.”

Benjamin encourages prospective students to consider Walsh if they value community and personal connection. “At Walsh, you’re not just a number—you are part of a family,” he said. “The support from classmates, professors, and even other athletes is unmatched. No matter your background or beliefs, Walsh can offer you a new perspective that will enhance your life.”

As Benjamin continues his journey at Walsh, he is excited to keep growing academically, spiritually, and personally. His ambition, shaped by both his faith and his passion for cybersecurity, drives him toward his future goals.

“Walsh helped me align my ambition with my purpose,” Benjamin reflected. “Here, ambition isn’t about pride—it’s about working hard to achieve what God has planned for you. And I’m ready to make that happen.”
