Passwords are integral to your campus life and work at Walsh University. Most of our systems utilize Single Sign On (SSO) which allows the user to use the same username and password across systems. This also requires frequent password changes and a strong password to keep your academic and personal information secure.
When, admitted as a student, or first hired you will receive a username and a default password. You must set up your self-service password and change your password before doing anything else. (This process does not apply to Alumni or Emeritus faculty – see instructions below) Instructions are below:
Password Information
Password Requirements
- Password length - minimum of twelve (12) characters, which includes three (3) of the four (4) following characteristics.
- At least one upper case alphabetic character (A-Z)
- At least one lower case alphabetic character (a-z)
- At least one numeric character (0-9)
- At least one punctuation or symbol character (@, $, #, etc.)
- You Can Not Reuse your last 12 passwords
- New password Can Not Include your first name, last name or username
- Passwords that are based on common dictionary words such as Password, Football, Baseball, ABC123, etc. are not permitted
- Passwords will Expire every 90 days
Changing your Password from the default
- Go to office.com
- Log in with your Walsh email and the default password you received
- Update Your Password; The current password is the default password
- Enter your new password following the requirements above
- Enter the new password again
Registering for the Self Service Password Reset
- Once you have changed your password:
- Log in at office.com with the new password
- You will be prompted for More Information
- Follow the prompts to set up your own Self Service information – this includes a phone number and the Authenticator App
How to Install the Microsoft Authenticator App
- Go to the app store of your choice to download the app
- Once downloaded go to https://aka.ms/MFASetup
- Log in with your Walsh email and password
- Choose the Authentication option in the drop down
- Follow the prompts to set up the app with your Walsh email account
Resetting your password
- Go to office.com
- Enter your email address
- Note: If you are logged into your email automatically, log out and proceed to sign in and enter your email address
- When asked for your password, click Forgot My Password under the login area
- Enter the captcha characters, you can use the arrows to the right to get a new one if you can’t read it
- Registered: you will be asked which method you want notified with the code to continue to change your password
- Note: If you have not registered for the 2 factor authentication you will need to contact the help desk at 330.244.4357
Unlocking your Account
- If you log into portal.office.com and lock your account
- Click on Forgot My password
- Choose the option I know my password, but still can’t sign in to have it unlocked
- You will still be sent a code to have it unlocked by a method you choose
- If you are not registered and lock your account
- Please call the help desk at 330.244.4357 to have your password reset
