COPE Program

Walsh University launched the Counselors and Occupational Therapists Professionally Engaged in the Community (COPE) Program in 2021 in order to meet the unmet behavioral health workforce needs in underserved or high-needs areas. The program is sponsored through grant funding from the Department of Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) and the Behavioral Health Workforce Education and Training (BHWET) Program for Professionals.

The COPE Program*

• Enhances the community’s capacity to provide high quality experiential training of students in integrated and innovative care settings serving high-need populations and/or high-demand areas.
• Aims to work with underserved populations in rural and urban communities and specifically provide additional training on mental health needs including violence, human trafficking, suicide, addiction, immigrant populations, and trauma.
• Provides opportunities for MOT and CHD students to collaborate on best ways to meet the behavioral health/mental health needs of clients at designated sites.
• Provides free interprofessional training for MOT and CHD supervisors to discuss high needs populations and best practices for addressing mental health needs.

*The grant supporting the COPE Program is in its final year, and stipend applications are no longer being accepted.
