Did you meet before, during, or after your time at Walsh?: During our time at Walsh. Lisa was a sophomore, Eric was a junior.
Where did you meet?: We had a few classes together in the education department, but we started talking more on the Spring Break Missions trip with Campus Ministry to Harlan, KY.
How many children/pets?: We have 4 kids, ages 16, 14, 11 and 9
How They Met:
"We met at Walsh, while on a spring break missions trip with Sister Carol and Father Don to Harlan, KY with about 10 other students. Sister Carol called me the day before the trip, and asked me to go. I was not signed up to go but she heard through a few other students that I was interested. She asked me if I would please consider going...and when a nun calls you to do something, you can't say no! I packed my bags and was ready to go the next day. We traveled to Harlan, KY to work on housing and to work in the small Catholic school in the community. On that trip I met Eric (we had a few classes together, but had never talked), we talked, laughed and learned we shared a passion for teaching and a passion for helping others.
We started dating when we got back to North Canton, and did everything together from then on! We ran a tutoring program called STARS in downtown Canton, we organized the Education club to do all we could, and we even won awards together for service with the kids in that program. One of the students from the STARS program was even in our wedding!"
Where Are They Now?:
Lisa and Eric got married in December 2002, and have been married for 19 years. They have 4 kids, ages 16, 14, 11 and 9. Lisa is an intervention specialist for students with Autism and multiple disabilities in Aurora City Schools in grades 1 and 2. Eric is an intervention specialist for students with mild to moderate students in seventh and 8th grade in Aurora City Schools. Eric just recently came back to teaching after spending 13 years at home as a stay-at-home dad to the kids.Recently, Lisa contacted Dr. DeFazio, one of her professors from Walsh, about what the process was to get into teaching at the college level. That conversation lead to Lisa now working as an adjunct teacher at Walsh, teaching classes for pre-service teachers in the area of moderate to intensive disabilities. Coming back to Walsh, as a teacher, has been a wonderful experience for Lisa and she can't wait to teach even more!
Lisa and Eric met at Walsh, fell in love there, and still talk about how life was at Walsh. As they prepare our 16 year old to get ready for college, they find themselves talking about "when we were at Walsh" and "At Walsh we did this...." and they love talking about all the amazing things that happened while they were there that helped shape them all those years ago!
