The energy is building at Walsh University as the Cavaliers prepare for their first home rugby match of the season. On Friday, September 5, at 7:00 p.m., Walsh Men’s Rugby will host the University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish at Larry Staudt Field, bringing one of the nation’s most recognizable rugby programs to North Canton.
This Friday night lights contest will mark Walsh’s debut home game as a founding member of the Atlantic Coast Rugby Conference (ACRC), one of the most competitive conferences in collegiate rugby. With opponents that include past national champions and finalists, the Cavaliers are stepping onto a bigger stage and are ready to rise to the challenge.
“This is a special moment for Walsh Rugby,” said Vice President for Athletics/Athletic Director Christina Paone. “Hosting Notre Dame at home as we enter the ACRC signals the exciting direction of our program. We’re looking forward to seeing the stands filled with fans, families, and community members as we open the season.”
Rugby has quickly gained momentum at Walsh, with players and coaches bringing championship-level experience and a fast, physical style of play. The matchup against Notre Dame promises an unforgettable night of high-impact action and Cavalier spirit. Fans are encouraged to arrive early, with gates opening at 6:00 p.m., to enjoy the Friday night atmosphere and secure the best seats at Larry Staudt Field. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
The excitement continues the next day when Women’s Rugby takes the field for their home opener on Saturday, September 6, at 12:00 p.m.
