Walsh University is pleased to announce the election of Barbara Yingling ’92, ’96, for a two-year term as Chair, and Bruce Altieri ’82, for a one-year term, as Vice-Chair of the University’s Board of Directors, effective July 1, 2025. The new leadership will help guide the University as it continues to advance its Walsh 4.0 strategic plan—focused on innovation, growth, and mission-driven excellence through 2035.
“Our Board of Directors comprises faithful, mission-driven leaders whose wisdom and service are vital to our continued transformation,” said Walsh University President Dr. Tim Collins. “Barbara Yingling and Bruce Altieri are not only accomplished professionals but passionate advocates for our Catholic mission. Their leadership will help guide Walsh as we navigate the challenges facing higher education today—from enrollment pressures and affordability to technological disruption and shifting student expectations. Their election as Chair and Vice-Chair signals the Board’s deep commitment to building a bold, forward-thinking university rooted in truth, faith, and servant leadership. We are blessed—and thankful—to have them stepping into these key roles at such a pivotal time in Walsh’s story.”
Barbara Yingling, who succeeds Carol Miller ’93, brings a distinguished background in healthcare and community service. Most recently serving as Vice President of Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer at Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital until her retirement in 2022, Yingling began her career as a bedside critical care nurse. Her leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic as Incident Commander exemplified her dedication to service and strategic guidance. A double alumna of Walsh University, Yingling earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Master of Arts in Education Management, and continues to serve on numerous boards in the Stark County area.
“My connection to Walsh University runs deep, and I’m honored to serve an institution that has meant so much to me,” said Yingling. “In today’s rapidly evolving higher education landscape—where institutions face increased competition, shifting demographics, and rising expectations—Walsh stands out by staying true to its Catholic identity while embracing innovation. I’m honored to help lead the Board at such a critical time, as we position Walsh on the national stage through bold strategic planning, a commitment to academic excellence, and a focus on forming servant leaders grounded in faith and purpose.”
Bruce Altieri, elected Vice-Chair, brings years of business acumen and leadership experience to his new role. A 1982 graduate of Walsh University, Altieri has served on the Board since 2019 and has consistently demonstrated a commitment to the University’s mission and future growth.
“I’m grateful for and humbled by the opportunity to serve in this role and support President Collins and the Walsh community as we look ahead with confidence and clarity to continue the mission established 65 years ago by The Brothers of Christian Instruction,” said Altieri. “Barbara and I are both deeply committed to fostering excellence, faith, and service throughout the Walsh experience.”
Also joining the Board of Directors in July is the Honorable Robert F. Behler. A retired U.S. Air Force Major General and computer security expert, Behler brings a wealth of commercial and government experience, including service as Director of Operational Test and Evaluation for the U.S. Department of Defense. His career includes leadership roles at MITRE and SRC, and academic credentials from the University of Oklahoma and Marymount University.
The University extends its deepest gratitude to outgoing Chair Carol Miller for her ten years of dedicated service.
