Walsh University Receives $10,000 Grant for New Interpersonal Leadership Program

Walsh University received a $10,000 grant from the Ohio Department of Higher Education to support the Walsh Prevention Education and Programming Department in establishing a new initiative called the “Interpersonal Leadership Endorsement.”

The grant will enable Walsh University to purchase curriculum and supplies necessary to offer a certification course designed to prepare Resident Assistants (RAs), peer mentors (Cavs Cor), and freshmen to effectively address and respond to power-based relationship violence. Upon completing the course, students will earn an “Interpersonal Leadership Endorsement,” which can be added to their resumes, LinkedIn and Handshake profiles, and other professional portfolios. This program aims to enhance campus culture and equip students with essential skills for their future careers, contributing to the eradication of sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking.

The Interpersonal Leadership Endorsement program will adopt a multi-faceted approach, integrating social norms marketing, healthy relationship training, bystander intervention training, and experiential service learning into a cohesive certification program. The initiative will also involve collaboration with Stark County community partners, including COMPASS Sexual Assault Crisis Center, ensuring a robust and community-engaged program.

Walsh University is committed to providing innovative programming that promotes healthy relationships and prepares students to be leaders in preventing sexual violence. The new Interpersonal Leadership Endorsement is a significant step toward creating a more supportive campus environment.
