In the wake of the Israel-Hamas conflict and heightened tensions on U.S. college campuses, Walsh University joins Franciscan University of Steubenville in providing a safe place of refuge for any Jewish college student experiencing anti-Semitism by providing direct admittance to Walsh University.
“As the region balances on the brink of war, with fears of widespread terror and more deaths, we condemn this unspeakable evil and denounce those who choose to ignore or seek to justify unthinkable acts of barbaric behavior against Jews in Israel,” said President Tim Collins. “Harassment and anti-Semitism in this country, and particularly on college campuses, is unacceptable and in stark contrast to Walsh University’s Catholic mission and Judeo-Christian values. We believe that human life is sacred and that the dignity of the human person is the foundation of a moral vision for society. Our Jewish brothers and sisters seeking a safe haven have a place here on our campus.”
Walsh University welcomes men and women of all religious traditions and beliefs who share its concerns for truth, scholarship, the dignity of the human person, freedom, and the betterment of human society. The expedited transfer process for Jewish students in danger of anti-Semitic discrimination, violence and hostility on campuses across the nation is effective immediately. Students may contact the Walsh University Office of Admissions who will make the transfer as seamless as possible.
This announcement is an expansion of the earlier decision by Dr. Collins to sign a joint statement of solidarity on behalf of Walsh University with other Catholic university presidents denouncing anti-Semitism in all forms, committing to combatting hatred of the Jewish people, and urging Catholic ecclesia and lay leaders, parents, teachers, professors, and public servants to fearlessly confront anti-Semitism.

The upcoming statement signing is planned for Tuesday, October 24, at the Franciscan University of Steubenville. The signing will be the culmination of a previously planned three-day conference on the Future of Catholic-Jewish Relations at a Time of Rising Anti-Semitism.
