Walsh University’s Board of Directors has selected alumnae Carol Miller ’93, as Chair, and Barbara Yingling ’92, ’96, as Vice-Chair, for two-year terms effective July 2023.

Succeeding A.J. Hyland, former president and CEO of Hyland Software, Inc., who retired from the board of directors after nine years of service, Carol Miller is an accomplished product, marketing, and business executive with a deep-rooted passion for Walsh University. With over eight years of dedicated service on the board, including her current position as Board Chair, Miller has demonstrated her unwavering commitment.
“As an alumna of Walsh University, I have a deep-rooted passion for the institution and its mission,” said Miller. “Walsh played a transformative role in shaping my life and career, and I believe in the power of education to make a positive impact on individuals and communities. I am honored to serve as the Chair of the Board of Directors and contribute to the University's continued growth and success.”
After beginning her career in sports marketing in New York City, Miller returned to her roots in Northeast Ohio. Over the next two decades, she flourished at American Greetings, taking on increasingly challenging roles across various disciplines. Her extensive experience encompassed marketing, sales, consumer insights, licensing, retail experience, business development, strategic partnerships and innovation. During her tenure as VP of Corporate Innovation, Miller was part of the executive team responsible for privatizing and subsequently selling American Greetings to private equity in April 2018.
Following her retirement in 2019, she embarked on a new chapter as a growth and innovation consultant for numerous global companies. Recently, Miller has taken on the role of Chief Commercial Officer at Pulsar Products, where she leads the sales, product and creative teams.
Beyond her involvement with Walsh University, Miller serves on the marketing committee at Magnificat High School and is a member of the Twinsburg Parks and Recreation Commission and the Twinsburg Schools Foundation as a Trustee.
Miller is a proud alumna who holds a degree in English/Pre-Law from Walsh University and a Juris Doctorate from Cleveland Marshall Law School, where she is a licensed attorney in the State of Ohio.
Now holding the number two leadership spot on the Board of Directors, Barbara Yingling is an accomplished leader, who served as Vice President, Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer at Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital until her retirement in 2022.
“I feel very strongly about the future and success of Walsh University, and I feel it is important to give back to the college in which I am a proud alumna,” she said. “As a lifelong resident of Stark County, I feel that Walsh University has so much to offer along with its strong faith foundation.”
Yingling began her career as a bedside critical care nurse and throughout her experience in healthcare, helped guide the strategic direction and transformational leadership for hospital patient care departments. She also served as Incident Commander throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, dedicating her time, talents and gifts on behalf of patients and teams at Mercy.
In the community, Yingling serves on the Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital Board of Directors. She previously served as a board member for the Beacon Pharmacy, Supportive Care Coalition, Women’s Impact of Stark County and the Western Stark Free Clinic. She served as volunteer chair of Mercy’s first Campaign of Caring Annual Fund and has been a major supporter for numerous Mercy Foundation events.
Yingling earned her Diploma in Nursing at Massillon Community Hospital, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Masters of Arts in Education Management from Walsh University. Her certifications and awards are numerous in the areas of patient safety, just culture accountability, healthcare finance and Sigma Theta Tau Nursing Honor Society.
Also joining the Board of Directors in July are Kevin Kelly, John Nichols and Atwell Williams.
