Dance Event Benefits Akron Children’s Hospital in Support of Children’s Miracle Network
The ninth annual Walsh University Cavathon dance event benefiting the children of Akron Children’s Hospital and in support of the Children’s Miracle Network is celebrating a record-breaking year! With more than 50 participants, the daylong event held in the Marlene and Joe Toot Global Learning Center, on Saturday, March 18, raised more than $49,000.
“I am beyond proud of the Cavathon group,” said Assistant Director of Residence Life and Cavathon Advisor Alexis Hedrick. “The Cavathon Board was very dedicated and worked so hard all year to reach their goal, and they did it all for the kids at Akron Children's Hospital!”
This year’s theme was carnival with dancers wearing brightly colored clothes as they participated in competitions throughout the 12-hour day. The students stayed busy by dancing, playing games and hearing from the families who are part of the Children’s Miracle Network from Akron Children’s Hospital. The interaction provided an opportunity for students to hear first-hand the incredible stories of strength of the children who benefit from Akron Children's Hospital care and programs.
The day concluded with a final reveal dance performed by the entire group. Walsh University President Tim Collins joined in on the final dance as the teams celebrated their fundraising total. All proceeds will go to Akron Children's Hospital.
The members of the Cavathon Board include Executive Board Members: Taylor Nagy (Overall Director), Grace Heighway (External Director) and Sarah Pancake (Internal Director) as well as 11 other Board members who worked all year to plan the event. The group works throughout the year, with support from many campus partners and community members, to raise funds and awareness that help to change kids’ health and change the future for the children at Akron Children's Hospital and in support of all the Children's Miracle Network.
"When I saw the final reveal, I instantly began to tear up,” said Senior Taylor Nagy, this year's Cavathon Overall Director. “It is an unbelievable feeling being able to look at the miracle kids before you and know that you were able to make a difference in their lives."
Cavathon is a part of the Children's Miracle Network which is a philanthropic organization, uniting students at hundreds of colleges, universities, and high schools across the United States and Canada to raise funds for Miracle Network hospitals. All proceeds raised from Cavathon go directly to Akron Children's Hospital.
