Walsh University has appointed Ray Risden ’92, Director of the Center for Scientific Excellence Laboratory. Bringing over 30 years of industry experience to this role, Risden will work with key stake holders and coordinate with strategic cross-enterprise initiatives to manage the operations of the Center for Scientific Excellence and expand its community outreach.
Previously holding positions in analytical and laboratory management, Risden has extensive experience with organic methods and analysis as an organic extractions chemist, analytical chemist, organic department manager, operations manager, technical director, and laboratory director at the Eurofins Canton Lab. Risden also has considerable experience with Gas Chromatography FID, ECD, Mass Spec, and HPLC analysis with environmental testing. Throughout his career, he has done method development on new and emerging compounds and implemented novel analytical approaches to challenging matrices.
As Director, Risden will be involved with planning and management of the laboratory’s state-of-the-art instrumentation to partner with business in Scientific Industry Research activities to support Walsh University science programs, create unique research projects for our faculty and provide internships and job opportunities for our students.
The Center for Scientific Excellence Laboratory was established in 2021 after Walsh University was awarded a highly selective SPARQ (Shimadzu Partnership Academics, Research and Quality of Life) grant from Shimadzu Scientific Instruments (SSI), one of the world’s largest and most well-respected manufacturers of high-end scientific equipment. Risden will work with university leadership to further the partnership between Walsh and Shimadzu and seek collaborations that will benefit faculty and students and advance our mission to enhance the quality of life through the advancement of the sciences.
Risden earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Chemistry from Walsh in 1992.
