Walsh University’s World Student Organization will welcome students from two new countries this year while also celebrating the largest freshman class of international students (44) and Walsh’s largest international population in its 62-year history at the eighth annual International Flag Ceremony on Thursday, November 10, at 3:30 p.m., in the Barrette Business and Community Center.
This fall, Walsh University has welcomed 155 international students from 30 countries to begin the 2022-23 academic year.
“Welcoming our new and returning international students at the flag ceremony is one way in which we celebrate our diverse community, our unique cultures and life experiences, and build relationships. It’s also an opportunity to recognize our World Student Organization and international ambassadors who are among the first to welcome international students to campus,” said Director of Student International Services Kristi Campbell. “The flags displayed in the Marlene and Joe Toot Global Learning Center are a reminder to all of us that our international students are integral to our mission of developing leaders in service to others with an international perspective.”
Walsh’s newest flags, Portugal and Uzbekistan, will be added to the display, which has grown to include more than 94 flags from around the world. In addition to the U.S., the top countries represented by students on campus are Saudi Arabia, Ghana, Canada, United Kingdom and Spain.
The International Flag Ceremony will feature desserts from around the world and entertainment by the Walsh University Chorale, an African drum group and international community members.
Upcoming World Student Organization events that are open to the public include the highly anticipated annual International Dinner on March 25, 2023.
