University Signs MOU with Carlow College, St. Patrick’s and Southeast Technological University
Walsh University has many partners throughout the world and continues to expand its relationships with educational institutions both in the United States and beyond. The most recent Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Carlow College, St. Patrick’s and Southeast Technological University (SETU) in Ireland is an exchange program in which Walsh University and Carlow College agree to exchange students and faculty on a regular basis. Exchange students will enroll in classes and live abroad on campus.
“As we continue to build Walsh 4.0 and position the University for the future, partnerships are integral to our strategic approach to offer unique and distinctive education experiences,” said President Tim Collins. “This partnership is part of our study beyond efforts, offering educational opportunities beyond our campus. Three separate locations in Europe were identified in early 2020, and we have now delivered as promised and will continue to explore additional opportunities.”
The partnership, co-signed by Walsh University President Tim Collins, Carlow College, St. Patrick’s President Fr. Conn Ó Maoldhomhnaigh and Vice President for Development and Research at SETU, Carlow Campus, Dr. Declan Doyle, includes exchange agreements for faculty and staff, and future cross-cultural education experiences, including Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) opportunities, service-learning programming, and study abroad opportunities for Carlow College students to study at Walsh.
Carlow College, a liberal arts college located in Carlow, Ireland, is the second oldest third level institution in Ireland. Founded in 1782 by James Keefe, the Roman Catholic Bishop of Kildare and Leighlin, and his co-adjutor bishop Daniel Delany. Carlow is one of Ireland’s largest inland towns located about an hour southwest of Dublin, where students can experience outdoor adventure and a rich cultural heritage.
Walsh currently offers opportunities to study beyond, domestically and internationally, for one week up to 16 weeks. Through a partnership with the Franciscan University in Gaming, Austria, students spent the Spring 2022 semester studying in a renovated 14th century Carthusian monastery. This past summer, as part of a revised Rome program through the Australian Catholic University, Walsh students returned to the Eternal City for the first time in two years. The new collaboration with Carlow College will provide students an opportunity to experience the culture and history of Ireland. In addition to Europe, Walsh is pursuing international partnership options in East Asia. Students and faculty also travel internationally to Africa and Central America.
