Cleveland Browns Assistant Coach Callie Brownson to direct camp as U.S. National Team Head Coach
USA Football, the sport’s national governing body and a member of the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee, today announced the 2022 U.S. Women’s Tackle National Team, led by head coach CALLIE BROWNSON, Cleveland Browns Assistant Wide Receivers Coach and Chief of Staff, will hold its training camp at Walsh University in North Canton, Ohio from July 21-27.
U.S. Women’s Tackle National Team players and coaches will live on Walsh University’s sprawling 136-acre campus for the training camp’s duration. Complete with both natural grass and turf fields, the university also features multiple gymnasiums for indoor practices as needed. Upon departing Walsh University on July 27, the U.S. team will fly from Cleveland Hopkins International Airport to Vantaa, Finland to compete in the 2022 International Federation of American Football (IFAF) Women’s Tackle World Championship from July 28-Aug. 8.
U.S. Women’s Tackle National Team practices will be open to fans and free of charge. More details, including the team’s practice schedule, will be determined and announced later this spring.
Walsh has hosted several USA Football and international football events in the past 15 years. The university served as the home and practice site for the eight national teams competing in the 2009 IFAF Under-19 World Championship, which was won by the U.S., led by National High School Hall of Fame Head Coach CHUCK KYLE of Cleveland St. Ignatius High School.
“Walsh University is an exceptional training camp home for our team,” said Brownson, who won gold medals as a player for the 2013 and 2017 U.S. Women’s Tackle National Teams. “The university is a gem – the football facilities, living quarters and lounge areas make Walsh an ideal ‘home away from home’ and will help us prepare to play our best in Finland. It’s also exciting to coach and train in the shadow of pro football’s birthplace in Canton, Ohio. We can’t wait to get to work in Stark County.”

Brownson and her staff, which possesses more than 90 years of football coaching and playing experience with careers spanning U.S. National Teams, NFL clubs, women’s professional football leagues, and college and high school programs, recently conducted player tryouts and evaluations on March 12-13 at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. The U.S. coaches will determine the national team’s final 45-player roster in April.
The eight qualifying national teams that will compete in the 2022 IFAF Women’s Tackle World Championship include:
- Australia
- Finland
- Great Britain
- Sweden
- Canada
- Germany
- Mexico
- United States
This summer marks the fourth IFAF Women’s Tackle World Championship. The United States won gold medals in the three previous tournaments in 2010 (Sweden), 2013 (Finland), and 2017 (British Columbia, Canada).
