Walsh University President Tim Collins was the featured speaker at the Plain Township Salute to Veterans event Thursday. Before joining Johns Hopkins University in 2005, he served as a senior officer in the U.S. Air Force with command, staff and diplomatic experiences during his military career. His military honors include Aerial Achievement Medals, Air Medals, Aircrew Safety Award of Distinction, Bronze Star, Defense Superior Service Medal, Legions of Merit and the Purple Heart.

Veterans' efforts create freedoms for Americans

PLAIN TWP. – While America is in the throes of a divisive political period, the men and women of the military manage to put aside differences for the benefit of the nation.
That was the message delivered Thursday by Walsh University President Tim Collins, who was featured speaker at the annual Veterans Day observance sponsored by Plain Township government.

"We are a very divided nation," Collins said. "But today we are setting all that aside. The American veteran comes from all walks of life, from every race and ethnicity. They all share one thing in common. They all serve you."
The event was held in the township's Clarence L. Snyder Central Fire Station, which shares the ground with Veterans Park.
Collins is an Air Force veteran who served during the conflicts with Iraq and Afghanistan. A former fighter pilot, Collins left the Air Force after 23 years as a colonel.
