Walsh University is launching a new, innovative program with a “Party at the Pit” at the Alumni Fire Pit outside of the Paul & Carol David Family Campus Center on Sunday, October 17 at 6:00 p.m. The party will kick off Walsh’s first-ever Enrichment Week, four days of learning, fellowship and fun.
“Life is all about experiencing new things that help us grow so we feel creative, motivated, fulfilled, and accomplished, which enhances our decision making and leadership abilities,” said Associate Vice President for Academic Administration Edna McCulloh, Ed.D., who assembled and led the group that contributed to the design and planning of this signature event.
Enrichment Week takes place during the short break in between eight-week sessions. While some students will return home to visit family, get some much-needed rest, or pick up hours at their internships or jobs, registration closed with an impressive 277 participants including students, faculty and staff!
The activities include Laughter Therapy, GEO Art, Martial Arts and Leadership, Art of Bread Making, African Drum Circle and Musical Jam Session plus thought-provoking sessions like Maroon and Gold Table Talk: Athletes and Mental Health, Restorative Justice, and Exploring Career Options with the Federal Government, and many more. Walsh will welcome back to campus Walsh alum Ryan Bitzel, ’04, ’06, physical therapist for the Seattle Mariners, who will be presenting My Journey to the Major Leagues. He will share how he channeled both his passion for baseball and for physical therapy into a dream career in sports medicine. Enrichment Week also includes Walsh alum Tony Orahoske, ’82, a partner at KPMG’s internal audit practice. He will guide students on how to get the most out of their experiences. Using his 27 years of accounting and leadership experience, Orahoske will offer advice on becoming a pioneer and knowledge sharer.
“We are creating innovative elements on our campus to raise our value proposition to our students and to continue to make Walsh a “go to” university for personal enrichment,” said Vice President for Academic Affairs Michael Dunphy, Ph.D.
Beginning in Fall 2020, Walsh University transitioned from 16-week to eight-week terms, which provide more flexibility for students to earn their college degree at their preferred pace, pursue internships, employment and other learning activities as they complete their degrees.
