Walsh University will officially commemorate the construction of its new on-campus athletic stadium with a Groundbreaking Ceremony at Larry Staudt Field on September 15, at 5 p.m. The new multi-use stadium will serve as the home field for multiple Cavalier athletic teams including football, lacrosse, soccer and track.
With the groundbreaking ceremony, construction is now entering phase three of a four stage plan. Phase one was completed in fall 2020 and replaced the existing grass field with turf. Phase two followed in spring 2021 with the addition of a new scoreboard offering spectators a large playback video screen.
Phase three will begin this fall with construction of the west side of the stadium. Additions will include the William F. Brauchler Press Box to commemorate the generosity of the Brauchler family and their support of this initiative, and spectator seating for approximately 1,000 people. Phase three is expected to be completed by March 2022.
Once donor-funding has been secured, phase four will follow with the construction of the east side of the stadium including a promenade area, press box and seating for approximately 2,500.
“Walsh University’s new stadium will not only benefit our student-athletes and enhance our athletic offerings on campus, it will also positively impact our local North Canton community by reinforcing the vitality of the University District,” said Vice President of Administration/Chief Information Officer Brian Greenwell, D.B.A. “We look forward to increased Cavalier team spirit on campus with events such as student cook outs, alumni reunions, tailgate gatherings and increased exposure for our neighbor restaurants and retailers.”
