Education Mission Statement
Guided by the vision of the Brothers of Christian Instruction, the Division of Education develops educators who serve all learners with a willing spirit in a global society.
Highlights and Accomplishments
Several recent accomplishments of the Teacher Preparation Porgram at Walsh University are noteworthy. Our faculty members are teacher-scholars who value teaching and learning and strive to enhance the content and quality of classes taught at Walsh University.
Service learning partnerships, which model inclusive best practices for diverse learners, enable our education students to understand the social and cultural contexts in which children learn. Some of these community collaborations include an after-school enrichment program, after-school tutoring programs, and an Urban Outreach Program with St. Paul's Church of Canton, the Diocese of Youngstown and other satellite locations. In addition to these opportunities, distinctive relationships with local schools in model classrooms create mentoring partnerships with master teachers in diverse school settings. To give additional guidance and support, our Division of Education students are assigned to pre-student teach the semester prior to student teaching with the same cooperating teacher with whom they will student teach.
An active Education Club, Council for Exceptional Children, and Kappa Delta Pi honorary round out educational opportunities, further promote excellence and professional development, and encourage community service for Walsh University education students.
